WebProduction

More than just design

Definition of Purpose

The web design process begins with questions. Who will visit your website? How will they get there? What can they do? What should they learn? Should they come back? Is there a call to action? The process of creating a website starts with our mutual understanding of what your site will provide for its users, and what you hope it will do for you.

Content Editing

The web is an information distribution system, and the bulk of that information is text. For your website to be useful, it must have well organized, clearly written text that is structured with the web user in mind. I can help you write accessible, logical, Google-friendly content, that delivers a strong, coherent message.

Search Engine Optimization

Designers often neglect search engine optimization, but if you are hoping to draw visitors through Google, some degree of optimization is required. I can edit your copy and structure your pages to target your business's most important search terms, and will write clean, semantic code that allows search engines easy access to your content.

Standards Based Code in TextMate

Standards-Based Code

I design with web standards, meaning (X)HTML and CSS, allowing for a complete separation of presentation from structure. A modern CSS-based layout makes a website search-friendly, easy to update, and accessible to the greatest number of users. Whether I am creating a site from the ground up or redesigning an existing site, I will hand-code valid, meaningful markup and valid, well organized CSS that renders consistently across all major browsers.

Flash

Flash is a great way to add audio, video, and animation to a standards-based website, or to create a full site that offers a dynamic user experience. If still or motion imagery is what your site is about, then a Flash site may be the best solution. I can build simple "timeline-based" Flash sites or dynamic XML driven sites that are easy to update.

Visual Design and Interface

As an avid web user my preference is for clean pages with interactive elements that enhance user experience. My focus is on tight control of micro-whitespace, foolproof navigational structure, and intuitive layout, rendering content both easy to find and comfortable to read.

Visit Chandra Hood's Website ChandraHood.com Acupuncturist Chandra Hood wanted a clean, simple website to provide information for her patients. The layout and typography focus on making the content both legible and readable, and we incorporated statuesque anatomical sketches that reflect Chandra's background in Western biomedical science.

TSCA Web Services ScreenshotsTSCA Web Services TSCA Web Services For this project I was commissioned to create a set of communication-enhancing web services for Tri-State College of Acupuncture. I built on PHP and MySQL-based open source projects: SMF Forums, WebCalendar, SquirrelMail. By creating custom icons, CSS, and markup (and tweaking the PHP a bit) I was able to implement a consistent user interface across the three applications.

Visit Anastasia Hall AnastasiaHall.com New York acupuncturist Anastasia Hall wanted her website to have a clean look that incorporated her photography. I used oceanic blues and subtle gradients for a cool, spa-like feel, and assisted her in preparing content for the web.
